Of Girls and Games
Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending America’s Video Game Expo at the Philadelphia Convention Center. There were many vendors there such as Dell, Panasonic, Subaru, Alienware, and Rock Band. But one of the highlights of the event was the inclusion of one of the many gaming clans that are out there. This clan entitled PMS is an all female clan that because of their sponsors Verizon and Patriot memory was hosting competitions against anyone for a chance at the prize they were currently offering. After watching a few matches it was very noticeable that this was easier then it sounded because the skills of the PMS clan members were better than most of the people in attendance.
This situation reminded me of an article from some game magazine that I had read awhile back that had talked to a professional female gamer on her training regiment for upcoming tournaments. She responded that while it varied by what game she needed to play, but a good example of her methodology was the fact that she could spend over an hour simple turning a corner properly. Now just a quick little side note about turning corners properly what the article did not explain was the fact the turning the corner properly meant having the right equipment out that the situation calls for and having your weapon at one hit one kill targets or if they don’t exist then where ever the most damage would be dealt.
But Bringing my thoughts to the scene in front of me I noticed that the games you could play them in where the more popular shooters the Xbox had to offer which was Halo, Gears of War, and one that I was unable to identify due to my lack of Xbox experience. Now maybe if I was a better player I would have gotten in line to play a PMS member to try and win one of the prizes, but like I said before I suck at Xbox games and while this does not matter in the grand scheme of things I know I am making most “hardcore” gamers scream out what the hell is wrong with this man not knowing how to play an Xbox. Now I can assure you that there is nothing wrong with me but my disinterest for the Xbox comes from the fact that most of its popular games are of the type that a frat boy with only has half of his brain cells left could enjoy with what little effort they can muster. Now I have gotten off the path that I originally meant to travel so it’s time to find it which may be a little messy so watch out for the blood I may leave behind.
So taking the turn to the proper path we come face to face with the fact that there are a lot of female gamers out there and while some are in clans like PMS most are not. Even if they are not in clans it does not mean they are any worse than those that are. Along with the fact that women play games is the rather obvious if not painful fact that when they win it usually means they beat a lot of guys since men still make up the majority of those playing games. This causes the question of if women are beating the guys at their own game then why don’t more play to be formed. Now the only answer that I can give to the question is the fact the answer is in the question. What this means is that the questions states their own games with their meaning guys and if you still don’t see what I am getting at then I will spell it out for you. What I am trying to get at is the fact that most game production companies produce games with men in mind rather than women and if I use stereotypes a bit it can be said that men prefer the games that go I shoot something, it blew up, that’s so cool while women tend to prefer games that a bit more then the simplistic dribble men prefer. So either women are digressing or they just really want to beat up the oh so fragile ego of the men who play against others thinking they’re the best when they’re not. My guess is the later of the two options since it truly is good to beat someone who has the mentality of compared to me you are all noobs that have to cheat to win.
As I left the grisly scene that I had been watching ever so intently to head to a panel that I wanted to attend I noticed a lack of women gamers in attendance since most that were there seems to either be with children to supervise them or with their boyfriend/husband just to be with them. That statement held true until I took my seat in the panel in which case the women seem to be coming out of the wood work which caused me to be perplexed as I knew they had to come from somewhere but they definitely were not coming from the main exhibit hall. I had little time to ponder this conundrum as the panel started just shortly after I noticed this surge in the number of females in attendance, but in the end I really did not care if there were women at the expo or not since after all I was there to have a good time.
Even though it was made a little harder to have that good time since the only games at the expo were either demos that I had played before or games that are over a year old I was able to find a few games I had either not played in a long time or new ones that I did not get a chance to play before the expo. Overall I found some good games to play, got a lot of free stuff, and attended some interesting panels that I would love to see again.

Gamers Allure
I recently attended the Philadelphia Gaming Expo which was held in the Philadelphia Convention Center. Compared to most gaming expos, this one was small and relatively unfilled. They had several small tournaments for games such as Gears of War, Halo, some traditional Super Nintendo games, and some LAN events as well. Overall, it was not that exciting, due to the lack of gaming companies participating in the event. The company promoting Gears of War never showed up, and neither did Atari or Microsoft. I would say it was pretty disappointing as far as game events go; however, there was one very exciting portion to this particular event. This portion was known as PMS.
PMS, that’s right! We’ve all heard about it, and as guys, we all dread that fateful day every month when we get our balls removed. Fear not, my friends! All is not as it seems, well at least for the most part. PMS is actually a female gaming clan, and a fairly good one at that. They are a professional team with a variety of members. Each member specializes in a different game (unless they are participating in 2v2 matches), and every member treats gaming as a profession and a sport. Personally, I had the opportunity to play with one of the Gears of War girls, and I have to say that it was a good match, even though I beat her. I admit she was good at gaming, and that is all and well, but you may be wondering what she looked like?
Well back where I come from gamer girls are usually considered “nerds”, and nerds are commonly known as butt-ugly. Now I know it sounds cruel, but believe me when I say that in the place where I grew up this rule is never broken. So when I saw a beautiful blonde gamer come up and challenge me to a match, I nearly had a heart attack just looking at her. She had glitter on her cheeks, her hair was long and wavy, she had fine legs, and to top it all off, she was sporting a tank top. She was definitely one of those rare combinations of beautiful and hot, and she really spiced up the match, if you catch my meaning.
So that leads me to the question of what exactly is the perfect girl. I have to say, for a long time I thought that if I had Jessica Alba sitting on my lap, I would be a very happy man. Well that will never change, if Jessica was sitting on my lap, I do not think I would ever let her get up, but that is beside the point. What is the perfect woman? The perfect woman is a woman that not only has a smoking body, but also a woman that can enjoy the less “womanly” things as well as the things that most guys cannot get enough of, such as sports, cars, video games, and beer.
She was not the only nice looking one, don’t get me wrong. There were many fine looking girls at the gaming expo, and since the gaming expo itself was not that great (I was bored by the second day of the three-day event), I spent most of the time talking to the girls that were hosting or competing in the various events. It was interesting to find out that most of them were from other countries, (which is probably why they did not weigh a metric ton), and that they detested American girls. When I say this, I do not mean that they were not racist in any way. Their disgust for American girls stemmed solely from the lack of skill in American gamers. I guess America will never cease to amaze other countries’ denizens in the impressions we give off.
To give a little information regarding the rest of the events at the gaming convention, I would like to point out a couple things. The tournaments were poorly organized, for one. The Halo tournament was only a 2v2, with sign-ups on a piece of loose-leaf paper, no prize except for a pathetic excuse of a trophy, and a guy adding random people to the brackets when the contestants did not show up. The Gears of War tournament was even worse, believe it or not. First, we were told that we would be playing a warm up round with the PMS girls (which we did, and was pretty fun), but after the warm up match, we looked for the Gears of War tournament officials and, sure enough, they did not show! I guess it was not a big enough convention for them. There were also small competitions for “Dance Dance Revolution”, “Nintendo Classic”, and a premier showing of the upcoming “Rock Band”.
Besides the “Rock Band” demo, not much else was new, and nothing was truly worth the three-day pass. On the whole, I would say the money is worth spending for one day, and maybe getting one of the pretzels or microwave pizzas they offered as sustenance. In retrospect, I would not buy the three-day pass, nor would I recommend traveling across states to come check it out, unless your main goal is to meet that special type of girl that you just can’t find anywhere else.
Enjoy,

Debating On Women
While looking around we noticed all of the people hold up their signs showing their support for their nomination. Frantically, they would scream the names of their nominees to see who can be the loudest group. There were uncountable number of photographers, cameramen, reporters and women as we walked through the crowd. As we made our difficult journey from one side of the street to the other, I saw something out of the corner of my eye. For a second I just stopped and looked at her beauty. I could help but notice her long black hair, her perfectly done makeup, her gold earrings looping around her ears and her camera she had hanging around her neck. The camera fell into her low cut red shirt with her large breast, appearing to be waiting for their grand entrance. We waited a few more seconds and then continued onward.
Any possible characteristics on a woman you can think of, there was at least one women with it there. From all different colors of hair, different colors of eyes, shapes and sizes and even age. Any one could have found what they find as the perfect gal. If you like blond, brunet, red, they were all there. The same goes with the color of their eyes blue, green and brown. There were short, tall, skinny, and larger. Anything you can think of to be on a woman, it was there. If for some strange reason you find a female Democrat more attractive than a female Republican than you were in luck. The same goes for a Female Republican over a female Democrat. They were all there for the show and so was I.
Everyone was waiting around to see if anyone famous was going to show up late and be spotted by the supporters and protesters outside. Because we were there, we decided to stay and look for someone as well. As a car pulled up, everyone frantically moved up as close as they could to catch a glimpse, but as the elderly women released herself from the car everyone backed away not sure who it was. When everyone moved away we were able to squeeze our way up to the front of the crowd and stand in front of the gate blocking us out. As we stood there, there were two female reporters, one with a camera and one with a microphone. Not only were they some of the only female reporters there, they were also one of the only Asian reporters as well. I noticed that the side of the camera had a logo for a television channel that neither I nor my friends have ever heard of. We watched as the female reporter did her report differently in her language and from how a male reporter would have reported.
Women have come along way than from a few decades ago. Going to the debate at Drexel really helped show this. There were women of all professions that years ago they were never able to do. There were journalists, reporters, some were in politics and a great amount of them were college students. The debate showed that the percentage of women attending college is a lot larger than what it used to be. One thing was that one of the candidates running for president is a female. Not many females ran for president, but Hillary Clinton is one of them and stands a good chance at winning. So we might have the first female president, which would be a huge accomplishment for them. One thing I also noticed was how the women looked compared to the men. The women there all had different clothes, makeup, hair styles and shoes compared to the female next to them. Where as all the men dress the same attire and don’t really stand out much for how they look compared to the next man with his suit and tie. I noticed this makes it difficult for the women doing their jobs that night. It seems like they had to go through the same thing everyday to look just as good or even better as the next women and what they looked like the day before.
At the debate, one reporter had long straight hair, heels and light on the makeup, and the next female reporter had curly brown hair, flat shoes and tons of makeup. The debate showed that some of the women had to put in a lot of work to show off their beauty and look sexy and another one might only have to put in a little bit to look just as good as the other one.
I noticed there were two types of people enjoying themselves at the Drexel presidential debate. One was someone who knows politics, follows politics and enjoys politics. The other would be someone like I, who is interested in women and how they looked that night. The significance of attending the debate was supposed to be politics for most people, but for me and a few other people, to attend the debate was to see all of the different women there and how they dressed for their profession. Like I said before I do not know much about politics, but after seeing all of the women at the debate I decided to start getting into it because it would be able to help with picking one up.
